Some passengers, including a BBC presenter, shared their experiences online. She mentioned seeing a white flash from the train just as it pulled in. It was a bit chaotic at first, but everyone stayed pretty calm.
As people were leaving, staff were running around with fire extinguishers, making sure everyone got out safely. There were a few loud bangs, but thankfully, no one was hurt.
In a video she posted, you could see smoke rising from the train, and it looked like a small fire had damaged one of the carriages. Passengers were seen walking away calmly, which was good to see.
Fire crews from West Sussex were on the scene, confirming that everyone had been evacuated and the station was closed while they dealt with the fire.
Southern Rail announced that no trains would be stopping at Gatwick due to the incident. They suggested alternative routes for travelers needing to get to the airport.
