A tragic incident in Gateshead has left a family mourning the loss of a 90-year-old man after a car accident just before Christmas
Gateshead: A heartbreaking event unfolded just before Christmas when a 90-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a car. Peter Douglas was struck by a black BMW late on December 23.
The accident happened around 11:15 PM on High West Street, close to the Regent Street junction. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, Mr. Douglas suffered severe injuries.
He was taken to the hospital, where he passed away on Christmas Day. His family is being supported by specially-trained officers during this tough time.
The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene to help the police with their investigation. Northumbria Police are looking into the circumstances of the accident and are asking anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
Sergeant Andrew McNally expressed his condolences, saying this is a tragic situation for Mr. Douglas’s family. They are particularly interested in any dashcam footage from that night that could shed light on the incident.
