A local garage upgrade was turned down by the council over worries about noise and smells affecting nearby homes. Residents voiced their concerns.
Blackburn: So, there was this plan to upgrade a garage that got shot down. Mohammed Aslam, who runs A1 Tyres on Clarendon Road, wanted to tear down his old garage and build a new one. Sounds simple, right?
He was hoping to add MOT services and tyre fitting to his business. But the council said no, citing noise and odour issues that could bother the folks living nearby. They were also worried about traffic and parking problems.
Interestingly, a report showed that one person wrote a letter of objection, and there was a petition with nine signatures from locals on Clarendon Road and Victoria Close. They had a lot to say about traffic safety, noise, and even potential chemical spills that could harm the environment.
The report pointed out that the garage is already a commercial spot, but it’s looking pretty run-down. The new building would have made it look better and used land that’s already developed. But the council wasn’t convinced.
They mentioned that the new garage would be just 20 meters from homes, and there could be more noise from the MOT services. So, for now, the upgrade is off the table. It’s a bummer for Mr. Aslam, but the council is looking out for the community.
