Yorkshire: A gangster named Joseph Whittingham has died in prison. He was known for running a drug empire with help from his prison nurse lover.
Whittingham died on January 12 at HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes. The cause of death is under investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
He was involved in a major drug smuggling operation at HMP Lindholme in Doncaster. Whittingham and 17 others smuggled over £1 million worth of drugs and weapons into the prison.
At 35, he played a leading role in this operation. He seduced prison nurse Amy Hatfield and got his wife and father involved in the scheme.
Hatfield, 38, pleaded guilty to multiple drug-related charges. Whittingham also pleaded guilty and received an 11-year prison sentence in October 2023.
In 2024, ten more people were jailed after drugs were found in a prison officer’s Pot Noodle at Lindholme.
