Galway: A mother and her son are having a tough time in their apartment. They’ve been dealing with serious water issues that have left them using a bucket to flush the toilet. Can you believe that?

They even had to join a hotel gym just to take a shower! It all started when they got a notice about rent arrears, which turned out to be just 60 cents. Crazy, right?

The Residential Tenancies Board heard their case. The landlord, a company based in Cyprus, didn’t seem to care much about fixing the water problems. The mother sent countless emails asking for help, but nothing changed.

Even after hiring a plumber herself, the water flow was still terrible. A witness who visited their home saw black mold on the walls and confirmed the toilet wouldn’t flush properly. They had to use a bucket instead!

The tribunal found that the landlord had done some repairs, but it wasn’t enough. They ruled that the tenants didn’t have enough water to wash up, which is against housing regulations.

In the end, the tribunal ordered the landlord to pay the family €1,500 for not meeting their obligations. It’s a tough situation, and it’s hard to believe people have to live like this in Galway.
