Jonner Robinson transitioned from dairy farming to firefighting, now leading at Bishop Auckland Fire Station
Bishop Auckland: Jonner Robinson, a County Durham dad, changed careers from dairy farming to firefighting. He loves his new role and has no regrets.
Growing up near Newton Aycliffe Fire Station, Jonner often watched firefighters in action. He always wanted to help his community.
When he was old enough, Jonner became an on-call firefighter. He balanced this with jobs in dairy farming, call centers, and insurance training. In 2014, he became a full-time watch manager at Bishop Auckland.
Jonner believes on-call firefighters are essential for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service. They help the service run smoothly and effectively.
The Bishop Auckland team includes mechanics, chefs, paramedics, and business owners. They respond to emergencies while managing their full-time jobs.
As an on-call firefighter, Jonner feels proud to work with dedicated people. They give up their free time to ensure the fire engine is ready to go.
He appreciates the sacrifices made by on-call firefighters and their families. They respond to emergencies and return to their regular jobs the next day.
CDDFRS is currently looking for on-call firefighters living within five minutes of its 13 stations. These include High Handenhold, Consett, Seaham, and more.
Jonner encourages anyone interested to apply. He believes some hesitate because they worry about fitting in. His advice? Just give it a try!
The fire service is more diverse than ever. A varied workforce brings fresh ideas and solutions. Everyone is welcome, and training builds lifelong friendships.
