A former British lawyer faces serious charges in Moldova over a gang-related murder plot involving a tragic shooting of a young girl
Chisinau: So, there’s this former lawyer from the UK, Toper Hassan, who’s in a heap of trouble. He’s been charged with conspiracy to murder a gang boss in Moldova. This guy, Izzet Eren, was linked to a shooting that left a nine-year-old girl in critical condition.
Hassan, who’s 58, got nabbed at Stansted Airport because of a warrant from Moldova. Apparently, Eren was a big player in a violent gang from north London called the Tottenham Turks. The whole thing went down in Chisinau back in July 2024, and it sounds like a real mess.
He was arrested by the National Crime Agency and has been stuck in custody since. Eren, who was only 41, got shot outside a cafe, and it’s believed it was a revenge hit. UK police are looking into whether this ties back to another shooting in Hackney where a girl and three men were shot.
This gang war has been brutal, with at least 20 murders and kidnappings reported. Eren himself had a pretty shady past, having been jailed in London for 21 years for trying to murder a rival. He escaped from a Turkish jail in 2019 and ended up in Moldova, where he was arrested again.
It’s all pretty wild, and now Hassan is facing extradition back to Moldova. The National Crime Agency is on it, and things are still unfolding. It’s a crazy story that just keeps getting crazier!
