Bryan Reinosa-Toassa, a repeat offender, is jailed again after being caught with a knife in Byker while on parole following a prior drug and weapon charge.
Bryan Reinosa-Toassa, age 27, went to jail before. This happened in July 2023. He had drugs and a knife back then. A cop saw him selling drugs in Newcastle. He got out of jail last July, but was still on parole recently.
Police saw him acting strange. This was in Byker on February 3. They searched him and found a knife. He told police he needed it because he did not want to get hurt. Reinosa-Toassa lives in Elswick. He admitted he had the knife in court.
A prosecutor named Jonathan Moore spoke and said the officer saw Reinosa-Toassa around 12:45 p.m. The officer was on Shields Road in Byker and searched Reinosa-Toassa. They found the knife in his jacket.
They arrested him. Police asked why he had the knife. He said he gets in trouble and could use it to stop him getting hurt.
His lawyer, Jack Lovell, spoke and said the guy has mental health issues. He had been in a mental hospital and was homeless until December. Then he got a place to live.
A judge named Kate Meek spoke and sent him to a higher court for sentencing. She said they need more sentencing power. She is holding him in jail now because she thinks he might commit more crimes if released. He goes to court again on March 4.
