Flights at Kirkwall Airport were halted as police looked into a threatening message, but operations have since resumed.
Kirkwall: So, this morning, flights at Kirkwall Airport in Orkney were put on hold because of a threatening message that came in. It was a bit of a scare, right?
The staff got the message early on Saturday, January 4, and they quickly called the police around 10:50 AM. Naturally, that caused some chaos with flights while the officers looked into it.
After checking things out, the police found no real threat, which is a relief. The airport is back to normal now, but they did warn passengers to expect some delays.
People were advised to reach out to their airlines for the latest updates. A spokesperson from Police Scotland confirmed that they were on it and that there was no credible threat.
Highlands and Islands Airports Limited, which runs Kirkwall Airport, also mentioned that flights were disrupted but are now back on track. They just suggested checking with airlines for any lingering delays.
