Swansea and Cardiff face flash flooding as heavy rain leads to multiple alerts across Wales
Swansea: So, it’s been a bit wild in Wales lately! Flash flooding hit Swansea and Cardiff, and it’s caused quite a stir. The Met Office warned us about heavy rain, and boy, did it deliver—over 25mm fell on Wednesday evening alone.
People were reporting flooding in places like Coryton and even at the Woodman pub in Blackpill, Swansea, right around 6:30 PM. It was a real downpour!
By Thursday morning, Natural Resources Wales had issued one flood warning and 26 alerts. The main warning is for the River Loughor, affecting areas like Ammanford and Llandybie.
They’re keeping an eye on low-lying properties near the river, including Carmarthenshire College. If you want the latest Welsh news, you can sign up for their newsletter.
Alerts are scattered all over, including the Rivers Wye and Usk in Powys and parts of the River Ely. It’s a bit of a mess, really.
And guess what? More rain is on the way! The Met Office says we might see some sunny spells, but don’t get too comfy—blustery showers are expected, especially in the north and west.
Looking ahead to the weekend, it’s not looking great either. Carol Kirkwood from BBC Breakfast mentioned it could be windy, and we might see more weather warnings. Friday will be mostly cloudy with rain moving southeast, but it should clear up by evening.
Saturday could be particularly windy, with coastal gales and a chilly feel on Sunday. So, if you’re in Wales, keep your umbrella handy!
