County Durham: So, there was this big crash on the A1(M) southbound, and it wasn’t pretty. Five folks ended up in the hospital after a multi-vehicle pile-up.

The stretch of the motorway between junctions 61 and 60 is completely shut down. Emergency services rushed to the scene around 9 am, sending out four ambulances to help.

All five patients were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital, but we don’t know yet how serious their injuries are. It’s a bit concerning, to be honest.

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service mentioned they got the call about the crash at Coxhoe and quickly dispatched their team.

They had four ambulances, a duty officer, and a commander on site. It sounds like they were well-prepared for the situation.

As for the road, Durham Constabulary hasn’t said when it will reopen. So, if you’re planning to head that way, you might want to find an alternative route.
