The Fit and Fed initiative has provided meals and activities for over 2000 children in Pembrokeshire, tackling holiday hunger and inactivity.
Pembrokeshire: There’s a fantastic project going on that’s really making a difference for kids. The Fit and Fed initiative has helped over 2,000 children by providing them with meals and fun activities.
This program, run by Sport Pembrokeshire and supported by the Bluestone Foundation, is all about tackling holiday hunger and keeping kids active. It’s focused on areas that really need it, like Haverfordwest and Pembroke.
Attendance has shot up by 62%, which is amazing! Kids aged two to 18 have enjoyed hot meals and tons of physical activities. Since it started, more than 4,000 kids have benefited.
Marten Lewis from the Bluestone Foundation shared how inspiring it is to see the positive changes in these kids’ lives. They’re all about empowering young people, and this project is a perfect fit for that mission.
With a £1,500 investment coming in 2025, they’re looking to expand even more. This funding will help provide healthy meals, a variety of sports, and strengthen ties with local partners.
It’s the fourth year in a row that the foundation has supported this initiative. Mr. Lewis emphasized how powerful it is when communities come together for a common cause.
Matthew Freeman, the manager at Sport Pembrokeshire, also highlighted how crucial the foundation’s support is. It helps them keep these important services running and reach more families in need.
The project is free for kids and runs during all school holidays. They’re even hoping to get more funding from the Community Lottery Trust to keep growing.
