Liverpool: ITV has just dropped a sneak peek of its new thriller, Protection. It stars some familiar faces from Coronation Street and Happy Valley, which is pretty exciting!

Siobhan Finneran, known for her role in Happy Valley, takes the lead as Detective Inspector Liz Nyles. She’s joined by Nadine Marshall from Champion in this six-part drama.

The show dives into the life of a witness protection officer and the chaos that ensues when things go wrong. It’s all about the challenges they face and the risks involved.

Liz Nyles finds herself in a tough spot when her personal life gets tangled up with her job. She’s having an affair with a colleague, which complicates everything. But she’s not backing down; she’s determined to get to the bottom of the corruption in her unit.

She’s got to save her reputation, protect her lover, and keep her witnesses safe. Talk about a lot on her plate!

Filming took place in the north-west of England, with locations like Birkenhead, Runcorn, and Liverpool. It wrapped up in September 2023, so it’s fresh off the press!

While ITV hasn’t announced a release date yet, we can expect to see Protection on ITV1 and ITVX later this year. Fingers crossed it’s soon!

Screenwriter Kris Mrksa shared that the show is not just a suspenseful thriller; it also tackles some heavy moral questions. It’s all about how far we’d go for the greater good, especially in the tricky world of witness protection.

He’s really pumped about bringing this complex story to life with the New Pictures team. Sounds like it’s going to be a wild ride!
