CalMac warns that the inaugural MV Glen Sannox sailing could face delays or cancellations due to strong winds forecasted.
Troon: CalMac has put out a heads-up that the first trip of the MV Glen Sannox might get canceled because of some pretty strong winds coming our way.
This ferry was supposed to set sail from Troon to the Isle of Arran tomorrow morning at 6:30 am. But with a yellow weather alert in place, they’re saying it could be delayed or even scrapped altogether.
On social media, CalMac mentioned that the sailings from Troon and Brodick could be disrupted at a moment’s notice. So, if you were planning to hop on, keep an eye on updates.
The Glen Sannox is a big deal, being the first new ferry to join the UK’s largest fleet in nearly ten years. It’s been a long wait since it was supposed to be delivered almost seven years ago.
There have been some hiccups along the way, like oil contamination issues that led to some parts being closed off. But CalMac assures us that this won’t affect how many people can ride, especially since it’s winter and demand is low.
Duncan Mackison, the chief executive, said a lot of hard work has gone into getting the ferry ready. He compared launching a new vessel to moving into a new house—there might be a few things to fix, but it’s still safe and ready for passengers.
They’re really looking forward to welcoming folks aboard and believe this ferry will be a great addition for the local community on Arran.
The Glen Sannox and its sister ship, Glen Rosa, were ordered back in 2015 but have faced a ton of delays and rising costs. They were originally set to be delivered in 2018, but things didn’t go as planned.
Once everything is sorted, the Glen Sannox will operate from Troon, with another ferry running from Ardrossan starting March 28.
Interestingly, officials have already flagged that the Glen Sannox will need some repairs before it even carries its first passengers. They’re expecting new anchor equipment to arrive soon for those fixes.
