Porthcawl: There’s been a lot of buzz lately about the benefits of saunas, and now there’s a brand new one right by the sea. Hikitalo just opened up, and it’s all about boosting your wellbeing. With an outdoor shower and a cozy spot to hang your stuff, the sauna features these amazing mirrored windows that give you breathtaking views of Sandy Bay.

Located at Sandy Bay in Hi-Tide’s Car Park, right next to Grow and Grind café, you can even take a dip in the sea or enjoy some cold water between sauna sessions. This whole experience is inspired by Nordic traditions, where you alternate between the heat of the sauna and the refreshing cold, all while enjoying good company. It’s a great way to enhance both your physical and mental health.

The founder, William Jenkins, really emphasizes the importance of connecting with others while doing something good for yourself. He believes every session is a chance to build meaningful relationships, sometimes without even needing to chat. He’s been on his own journey with mental health, and this sauna is a big part of that.

William, who grew up in Wales and spent time in Holland, has traveled a lot. After facing some tough times, he decided to focus on healing. He found that cold exposure was just the start of his journey. Saunas became a way for him to reconnect with himself and others, something he realized he had been missing.

He’s tried all sorts of saunas around the world, from sweat lodges in Latin America to Aufguss sessions in Germany. A memorable moment for him was in Guatemala, where he bonded with a Finnish friend over their love for saunas. That connection inspired him to create Hikitalo back in Porthcawl, a place where people can relax and heal together.

At Hikitalo, there’s room for up to 10 people, and the sessions are all about spreading warmth and positivity. Whether you’re a sauna pro or a newbie, everyone is welcome. William believes that every visit can help build a community focused on health and happiness.

Prices are pretty reasonable too, with communal sessions costing £15 for 55 minutes and £9 for 30 minutes. If you want a private session for up to 10 guests, it’s £110 for 55 minutes. You can easily book your spot and enjoy this unique experience.
