Fishguard faces delays as ferry issues arise following Holyhead’s emergency closure due to storm damage impacting travel to Ireland
Fishguard: So, there’s been a bit of a mess at Fishguard Port lately. After Holyhead Port got hit hard by Storm Darragh, they had to shut down. Now, Fishguard is feeling the pressure with a lot of extra passengers.
The Isle of Innisfree ferry was supposed to take off for Dublin at 5:30 PM on Friday, but it got stuck at the port. Apparently, it had some damage when it arrived, and now it can’t carry passengers until they sort it out.
Irish Ferries hasn’t confirmed what happened during docking, but they did say there’s a “technical issue” causing delays. A ferry tracker even mentioned they’re still working on fixing it, with updates expected every hour.
One of the company’s reps apologized for the hold-up, saying they’re trying to get the ferry to Dublin as soon as they can. They’re keeping passengers in the loop about what’s going on.
With Holyhead still closed, everyone’s hoping this ferry issue doesn’t mess up travel plans between Pembrokeshire and Ireland. Just before the Fishguard incident, Ken Skates, the Welsh Government’s transport secretary, thanked everyone for their hard work in keeping travel options open.
He mentioned that they’re all working together, including the Irish Government and the UK Government, to find solutions. It’s a busy time of year, and he understands how important it is for people to see their loved ones.
