Wigan: It was a rough start to the New Year for a family in Wigan. They were jolted awake at 6:30 AM by loud banging on their door. Turns out, their car was underwater!

Michael Abram, 46, and his family were in shock. Firefighters came to the rescue, taking them by boat to a nearby McDonald’s. Sadly, their home was a total mess. Everything on the ground floor was ruined.

Michael was especially grateful that the firefighters saved the urns with his parents’ ashes. He couldn’t believe how high the water had risen. It was a nightmare.

After the chaos, the family found refuge at St Nathaniel’s Church, where volunteers opened their doors to help. The community really stepped up, donating clothes and food to those affected.

Even people who had their own homes damaged were pitching in. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together during tough times. Lisa and Becca, two volunteers, were proud of their community’s spirit.

Rev Dot Gosling quickly opened the church when the flooding became serious. The Abrams were later moved to a hotel and then rehoused. It’s been a whirlwind for them.

One resident mentioned that the flooding was unprecedented for their street. The pumping station just couldn’t handle the downpour. It was the worst storm anyone could remember.

Local businesses like Iceland also suffered. The manager reported losing thousands in stock. They’re working hard to clean up and reopen soon.

Wigan council leader praised the emergency teams for their quick response. They’ve been working with various services to ensure everyone is safe and supported.

MP Josh Simons has even started a crowdfunding page to help those affected. He’s been visiting the impacted areas, showing support and gathering resources for recovery.

It’s a tough situation, but the community is rallying together. They’re determined to rebuild and support each other through this challenging time.
