Residents of a new estate in Hartshill are frustrated over unfinished roads and broken streetlights, leaving them feeling neglected and unsafe.
Stoke-on-Trent: Families are feeling pretty let down on a new estate called St Dominic’s Place. They’re dealing with broken streetlights and an access road that’s still not finished. It’s a real mess, and they’re not happy about it.
One resident, Dan Canavan, moved in back in 2019. He’s frustrated because when they bought their home, they were promised all sorts of things like proper street lighting and a nice road. But nothing’s been done. They even put up lampposts, but guess what? They never connected them! There are holes in the pavement, and his daughter had a nasty fall because of it.
And it’s not just the lights. There are drainage problems too. Dan had to fight for nine months just to get Severn Trent to look into it. It’s still not sorted out, and he’s worried about what will happen if something else goes wrong.
Other neighbors have chipped in to pay for some solar lights and to fix a drainage issue. It’s a shame because the community is great. They all get along and even have street parties. Dan thinks it should have been a shining example of how to build a neighborhood.
The local council has taken action against the developer, Dunedin Homes, for not following through on their promises. They’re working hard to make sure the issues get resolved quickly. A spokesperson from the council said they understand the residents’ frustration and are on it.
Meanwhile, Dunedin Homes claims they do have plans to finish the development soon. They say the streetlights should be working by February 2025, along with the drainage issues. Let’s hope they stick to their word!
