Stoke-on-Trent: Families are really feeling the pinch after a week of snow and freezing weather. They’re stuck at home because the roads are just too icy. It’s been a tough time for everyone on Mountford Street.

This street is pretty narrow, with cars parked on both sides, which makes it hard for gritters to get in. But folks are scratching their heads, wondering why their grit bin was taken away in the first place.

With all this snow and freezing temps, the situation has only gotten worse. Residents swear there used to be a grit bin there, but it’s gone now. They’re not happy about it.

Some have heard that the council is removing grit bins because of issues with teenagers messing around. It’s frustrating for everyone, especially the older folks who need to get around safely.

One resident, Susan Rotherham, shared her thoughts. She said, “There are no grit bins. I’ve been talking to my son about it. They won’t put them out because kids take the salt. But what about the elderly? They could really hurt themselves out here.”

She added, “The corner gets super slippery. There used to be a grit bin in the yard, but they got rid of it. We need those bins back to make things safer. The roads are a mess.”

Mountford Street is really struggling with the snow and ice. It connects to Baddeley Street and has a tricky junction that’s causing problems. Just the other day, a lorry was stuck there for over two hours!

Thomas Beresford chimed in, saying, “It’s wild that people know how bad these roads get, yet there are no grit bins. Even in other parts of the city, the bins aren’t always full, so it might not help much anyway.”

He feels for the elderly who don’t have cars. “You can’t put a price on safety,” he said.

Beryl Dawson, another resident, mentioned, “I won’t go out when it’s like this. A grit bin would really help, especially at that bad corner. We need action, but I doubt it’ll happen.”

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been asked for a comment on the situation.
