Falkirk councillors have voted against bungalow plans on greenbelt land, prioritizing environmental concerns over housing needs
Falkirk: The local councillors just had a close vote about some housing plans. They decided against building 21 bungalows on greenbelt land in Dennyloanhead.
The developers wanted to put up accessible bungalows near Bankview Terrace. They argued that this would help meet the demand for housing, especially for older folks.
David Jones, the agent for the developers, said the area is not good for farming and is often littered with trash. He believed the new homes would be a great addition to the community.
Some councillors agreed, saying it would provide much-needed housing. But others were worried about setting a bad example by allowing development on greenbelt land.
Councillor Laura Murtagh raised concerns about the lack of evidence for the need for these bungalows. She felt it could lead to more unwanted housing projects in the future.
Others, like Councillor Alf Kelly, emphasized the importance of keeping greenbelt areas intact. They believe these spaces are what make Falkirk special.
In the end, Baillie Buchanan’s motion to approve the plans was narrowly defeated, with a vote of five to four. It looks like the greenbelt will stay safe for now.
