Exeter: A gas leak caused quite a stir in the city today. Trains were cancelled, and emergency services rushed to the scene. Queen Street was evacuated, and they set up a 100m cordon to keep everyone safe.

Great Western Railway announced that trains between Exeter St Davids and Exmouth were either cancelled or delayed. They mentioned that all lines were closed due to the gas leak near Exeter Central. Passengers were advised to expect disruptions until later in the evening.

They also said Exeter Central station had to close, and they were working on finding replacement transport. But with the road closures, it might be tricky to get people close to the station.

According to a spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, they got the call about the leak around 3:53 PM. They sent four fire engines and set up the cordon from the Rougemont Hotel to the railway side of Exeter College.

One eyewitness shared how quickly things changed. The street was bustling with students and shoppers, and then suddenly, it was all closed off. The fire crew was on-site, and you could even smell the gas in the air.

Devon Alert also warned folks about the closures in the city center and advised finding alternative routes. It’s definitely a day to stay clear of that area!
