Colchester: So, there was this pretty scary incident at Colchester Zoo during their Halloween events. A woman ended up in the hospital with a suspected wrist fracture, and a young boy got a nasty cut on his head. Yikes!

Apparently, this isn’t the first time things have gone a bit sideways at the zoo. EssexLive found out that there have been ten reported incidents this year alone. Some of these injuries include fractures, head cuts, and even concussions. Not exactly what you want when you’re out for a fun day, right?

The zoo, which sees nearly a million visitors each year, insists that health and safety are super important to them. They want everyone to have a great time while staying safe. But with all these injuries, you have to wonder how well they’re doing that.

In one incident, a woman who was working as a ‘scarer’ got knocked down by a visitor and ended up with a wrist fracture. She had to go to the hospital and even got a metal plate put in. Ouch!

Then there was the boy who got hurt during the Halloween event. He was running around, got scared, and ran back into the Kalahari Theatre, only to hit his head on a door frame. Talk about a rough day!

When asked if the scares were too intense, a zoo spokesperson said they’re always looking to improve. They even had a ‘Scare School’ for their performers to help mix things up a bit. Sounds like they’re trying to keep it fun but safe.

There have been other incidents too, like a kid rolling off a changing table and a woman getting hurt while trying to keep up with a child. It seems like there’s been a bit of a trend with injuries lately.

The zoo reassured everyone that they take health and safety seriously. They do risk assessments and have training programs in place. After each event, they even survey visitors to see what went well and what didn’t. It’s good to know they’re trying to make things better.

But still, with all these injuries, it’s clear they have some work to do to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
