A former Tennent’s employee who joined Russian forces is now pursuing Russian citizenship after leaving Scotland
Dunblane: So, there’s this guy, Jay Fraser, who used to work at Tennent’s brewery. He packed up and left Scotland to fight for Putin in Ukraine. Now, he’s trying to become a Russian citizen.
Fraser, just 24, claims he wants permanent residency because of his “military service.” He even mentioned on social media that he still has his British passport but would get arrested if he ever returned to the UK.
When someone told him to stay away, he replied, “I never will.” It’s wild! He’s from Dunblane, Stirlingshire, and he’s cut ties with his family to join the Russian forces.
In a video, he’s decked out in military gear with a Russian flag cap, saying he’s burned all his bridges. He believes this war is about more than just Russia and Ukraine; it’s a clash of civilizations.
Fraser joined the Russian front line back in August. He insists he’s not in it for the money or a better life but for deeper reasons. He’s even calling on others to follow his lead.
Interestingly, his friend Ross McElvenny, also from near Glasgow, just got out of the hospital after losing an eye in combat. He’s been through a lot but seems to be in good spirits.
McElvenny was part of Putin’s 1099th Motorised Rifle Regiment and is under investigation back home. He’s got Russian citizenship now and says it was one of the happiest moments of his life.
He’s also mentioned having little contact with his family in Scotland. It’s a strange situation, and both of them seem pretty committed to their choices.
