Stuart Hogg, the former rugby captain, receives a community payback order after admitting to domestic abuse against his estranged wife.
Selkirk: So, here’s the scoop. Stuart Hogg, the ex-captain of Scotland’s rugby team, has been handed a community payback order. This comes after he admitted to abusing his estranged wife, Gillian, over five years.
He showed up at Selkirk Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to one charge of domestic abuse. It’s pretty serious stuff. He was found to have been shouting, swearing, and even tracking her movements. Not cool at all.
During the sentencing, he got a year of supervision and a five-year non-harassment order. This means he can’t contact Gillian for five years. He had already breached bail conditions before, sending her a whopping 28 texts in one night!
The sheriff didn’t hold back. He slapped him with a fine of £600 and a £40 victim surcharge. It’s a tough lesson for Hogg, who was once a celebrated athlete.
It’s a sad situation, really. Domestic abuse is no joke, and it’s good to see the courts taking it seriously. Let’s hope this serves as a wake-up call for others out there.
