Derby: It’s a sad day as we remember Ted Goodall, who passed away at 91. He was a well-known figure in the community, having run The Half Moon pub for 18 years. Ted was also a former Grenadier Guard and had the honor of being a pall-bearer at George VI’s funeral.

His family shared how much he loved pub life. He was sociable and well-liked, making the pub a lively spot. Ted was proud of his time in the Grenadier Guards, where he even met a young Prince Charles during his service.

After leaving the army, he became a policeman for a bit but soon returned to the Grenadier Guards. Eventually, he settled back in Derby, where he took over the pub from his grandmother. Ted was known for his dedication to keeping the pub thriving.

In 1991, he moved to Spain for 16 years but returned to Derby to be closer to family. His daughter Mandy expressed how proud they all are of him and how much he will be missed. Ted leaves behind a loving family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at Markeaton Crematorium, and everyone who knew him is welcome to pay their respects. Donations can be made to a charity that was dear to his heart, SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity.
