A West Yorkshire drugs gang attacked rivals in broad daylight, leaving one victim needing lifelong care after severe injuries.
Wakefield: A drugs gang attacked rivals in front of shocked neighbors. The brutal assault left one victim needing round-the-clock care.
Four men, Isaiah Anderson, Jeremiah Anderson, Denzel Patrick, and Benjamin Forrester, stormed a home in June 2021. They attacked Unis Abdullah and Abdul Rahman Ibrahim in revenge for a previous assault on Jeremiah.
During the attack, another person was pushed through a bathroom window. Unis and Abdul were then assaulted in the garden. The whole scene was terrifying for everyone nearby.
Footage showed the attackers calmly walking to the house, knowing what they planned. After the attack, they fled in a car, trying to hide evidence of their crime.
In court, the judge sentenced the men to 40 years in prison. They must serve two-thirds of their sentence before being eligible for parole.
Prosecutor Steven Grattage revealed that Abdul Rahman will need lifelong care. His injuries include a haematoma and stab wounds. He currently lives on a limited diet while awaiting more surgery.
A doctor stated that Abdul has cognitive impairment and may never live independently again. Once released from the hospital, he will need to stay in a care home.
Abdul’s brother shared how their family was devastated by the news. He had plans to work abroad but now focuses on caring for Abdul.
He described the moment he learned about Abdul’s condition as haunting. Abdul woke up from a coma but struggled to recognize his family.
Abdul’s brother expressed how much he admired him. They shared many memories, and now he feels heartbroken over the changes in Abdul’s life.
Unis Abdullah also suffered multiple injuries but has not made a statement since the attack. The court heard that Denzel Patrick had no prior convictions before this incident.
Isaiah and Jeremiah Anderson pleaded guilty to charges during the trial. Their lawyers argued for leniency, citing their lack of previous offenses.
Judge Bayliss emphasized the seriousness of the attack. He noted that it was planned and executed in front of the public, causing significant harm to the victims.
After the sentencing, a police officer stated that the gang showed extreme violence in retaliation against a rival drug line. The attack could have easily resulted in murder charges.
The officer hopes the sentences provide some reassurance to the victims and the community.
