As the final episode approaches, we rank all the beloved characters from Gavin & Stacey ahead of its Christmas return
Barry: If you’re like me, you’ve been buzzing about the return of Gavin & Stacey. It’s been ages since we last saw our favorite characters, and now they’re back for a final episode on Christmas night. Can you believe it?
After 21 episodes, including two Christmas specials, we’re getting a 90-minute finale. That’s a lot of time with the Shipmans and the Wests! Honestly, it feels like a mini-marathon, but I’m all in for it.
With all the hype, I thought it’d be fun to rank the characters. Just a heads up, this is totally my opinion, and I know everyone has their favorites for different reasons. So, let’s dive in!
First off, not every character is included. We’re focusing on those who appeared multiple times or had a big role in the story. So, don’t expect to see every cameo or mention. It’s all about the main crew.
Now, I know some placements might stir up a bit of debate, especially with the top characters. But hey, that’s what makes it fun! Here’s my list, starting from the bottom.
25 – Sonia: She’s not the worst, but she really put a damper on Christmas for Smithy and his crew. Fingers crossed she’s moved on by the new episode.
24 – Owain Hughes: He had a classic line, but honestly, he didn’t leave much of an impression otherwise.
23 – Jason: Stacey’s brother is sweet, but he doesn’t bring the laughs. Just a nice guy.
Joint 22 – Budgie, Fingers, and Dirtbox: I grouped these three together since they’re all part of Gavin and Smithy’s crew before they settled down.
21 – Chinese Alan: He’s not in it much, but that moment when he walks in asking about a Chinese takeout always cracks me up.
20 – Neil the baby: He doesn’t do much, but he’s super important, especially in the 2019 special. The actor really nailed it!
19 – Cath Smith: Smithy’s mum is grumpy and hilarious, and her lack of sleep just adds to the comedy.
18 – Deano: He’s around a lot but has a laid-back vibe that makes him seem a bit dull next to Smithy.
17 – Marco: He pops up in various roles, always bringing a bit of humor with him.
16 – Rudi: Sheridan Smith’s character is a small role, but her relationship with Smithy is really sweet.
15 – Gavin: The show wouldn’t exist without him, but he’s just too nice to rank higher. He’s a good friend and husband, but not a laugh riot.
14 – Neil Jenkins: Nessa’s dad is a bit of a mystery but has a soft spot for his daughter.
13 – Dick Powell: Every neighborhood needs a character like him, selling meat at crazy prices and speaking Welsh.
12 – Father Chris: The vicar with a temper is memorable for his hilarious moments, especially during weddings.
11 – Stacey: She’s funnier than Gavin, but the competition is tough in the top tier.
Now, let’s get to the top 10!
10 – Pete: The perfect neighbor who loves a good curry and has a heart of gold.
9 – Gwen: Stacey’s mum is the family glue, always trying to keep everyone happy.
8 – Dawn: The ultimate neighbor and best friend, she’s a joy to watch with her witty remarks.
7 – Mick: The ideal dad and husband, he’s funny and caring, adding heart to the show.
6 – Doris: A lovable grandmother figure, she reminds us of our own grandmas.
5 – Pam: Alison Steadman’s portrayal of Pam is hilarious and relatable, making her a standout character.
4 – Dave Coaches: Originally a one-off character, he became a fan favorite with his thick accent and memorable moments.
3 – Uncle Bryn: From his quirky personality to his heartfelt moments, he’s a character you can’t help but love.
2 – Smithy: The joker of the group, he’s funny and full of heart, evolving throughout the series.
1 – Nessa: The most iconic character, she’s unforgettable and always steals the show. A day out with her would be a blast!
