Essex: Thousands of low-income families are about to get some relief. A new council tax reduction of £50 is coming their way, thanks to a support scheme. This is especially good news for over 3,000 single-parent households in Havering.

The idea is to help families during the chilly winter months. If you’re a single parent already getting Council Tax Support, you don’t have to do anything. The reduction will show up automatically on your next bill. Just a heads up, though: this reduction isn’t refundable and can’t be used for other debts.

Council Leader Ray Morgon mentioned that this is just one way they’re trying to support vulnerable residents during tough times. Even with financial pressures on the council, they’re committed to helping those in need.

If anyone has questions about the scheme, they can fill out the Council Tax enquiry form for more info. Plus, the council is rolling out other initiatives to help with the rising cost of living.

Some of these include the Havering Helps program, which offers emergency assistance for essentials like food and heating. There are also warm spaces in libraries and community centers where folks can stay warm for free. And let’s not forget the Energy Doctors Programme, which helps residents cut down on energy costs with expert advice and small repairs.
