Tendring in Essex is experiencing a drop in house prices despite its beautiful coastal scenery and community charm
Clacton: Essex has some really lovely spots to call home. You’ve got busy urban areas, peaceful countryside, and stunning coastal views that are just breathtaking.
Tendring is one of those coastal gems, but here’s the kicker: house prices are dropping fast. This area, known for Clacton, has a bit of a bad rap, but there are tons of reasons to love living here.
The average house price in Tendring was around £260,245 over the past year, making it the most affordable place to buy in Essex. But, yeah, prices have taken a hit, dropping by about two percent recently.
Interestingly, a survey from the ONS in 2023 labeled Tendring as the unhappiest place in Essex. It’s famous for its seaside charm and being budget-friendly for homeowners and renters alike. Many folks even have second homes here.
Still, the area struggles with a higher unemployment rate, and some towns have a bit of a rough reputation due to crime and neglect. It was even in the running for the ‘worst place to live in England’ last year, with Rishi Sunak mentioning it for anti-social behavior issues.
But don’t count it out just yet! Tendring is on the up and up. With MPs like Nigel Farage and Sir Bernard Jenkin, the area is seeing improvements, especially in reducing anti-social behavior.
According to the latest police stats, incidents of anti-social behavior dropped by 13.4 percent, and overall crime fell by nearly three percent. So, things are looking brighter!
Despite the negative press, Clacton has been called a fantastic spot for family holidays and is often seen as one of the happiest places to live. Locals love the beach, and visitors flock here every year.
Just take a stroll along the seafront, and you’ll be greeted with smiles and waves from friendly locals. Peter Leonard and Jill Ayling, who were out for a walk, couldn’t stop raving about how much they love it here.
Jill, 76, mentioned how the high street has everything they need, especially the independent shops. It’s a lovely community vibe.
Bob Goddard chimed in, saying he can’t believe they’re labeled the unhappiest place. He walks from Jaywick to Clacton and finds everyone friendly. “What more can you ask for?” he said.
He added that it’s a warm community where most people greet you, even in Jaywick. It’s a nice place to live, for sure.
Interestingly, Tendring isn’t the only area in Essex where house prices are falling. Other places like Epping Forest and Thurrock are also seeing declines, while Uttlesford is booming with a 5.7 percent increase in property prices.
