The Environment Agency is looking into the severe flooding that hit Grantham, causing significant damage to homes and businesses this week
Grantham: This week, the Environment Agency is diving into the reasons behind the shocking flooding that hit the town. Water from the River Witham rushed into homes and businesses, especially along Belton Lane, leaving many in disbelief.
Residents are still reeling from the damage. They’ve never seen anything like this before. Even with flood defenses in place, the water came up fast, catching everyone off guard.
A spokesperson from the Environment Agency mentioned that heavy rain led to widespread flooding in Lincolnshire. They confirmed that the River Witham overflowed, prompting a flood warning for Grantham.
People tried everything to keep the water at bay, using sandbags and gravel. It was a tough situation for many.
They also said their teams are on the ground, working hard to help those affected. They’ll be investigating what caused this flooding and its impact soon.
They’re advising everyone to steer clear of swollen rivers and not to drive through floodwaters, as even a small amount can sweep a car away.
About 200 homes were affected across the county. Thankfully, the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum reported that water levels are starting to go down.
On January 8, they shared that as the water recedes, the focus is shifting from emergency response to recovery efforts for those impacted.
While some areas may still see high water levels, things are looking up as no rain is expected in the coming days.
A multi-agency group has been formed to assist those who suffered losses from the flooding. If you need help, check out the LRF website for advice and support.
