A Dover entrepreneur is on the lookout for investors to help build a unique film studio on the stunning cliffs, aiming to create a vibrant destination.
Dover: A 33-year-old entrepreneur has invested millions into transforming The Citadel into a mix of hotels, restaurants, and labs. His vision is to create a top-notch tourist and business hub, complete with a whisky distillery, wellness spa, and a venue for music and arts.
Three years ago, he and his partners bought the 33-acre site from the Ministry of Justice for £1.8 million. But now, he’s looking for new investors since his partners have decided to back out of the project.
“I was really upset when my partners wanted to sell. It threw everything into disarray. I was heartbroken,” he shared. “But I’m hoping someone will join me on this journey. We’ve made a solid start, but there’s still a lot to do. I need someone who believes in this vision.”
The Citadel, which sits high on Dover’s iconic White Cliffs, offers a view of France just 20 miles away. Built in 1775, it was once a defense against Napoleon and later served as a military barracks during the Crimean War and both World Wars. It became a Young Offenders Institution in 1956 and later an Immigration Detention Centre until it closed in 2015.
Mr. de Min believes this project could be one of the most exciting developments in Europe. “It’s incredible,” he said. “My partners are selling, which is fine, but I’m not giving up. The site is on the market for £15 million, and we’re open to offers.”
“I’ve poured my heart and soul into this. It could be the next Pinewood Studios – we’ve already had some thrilling filming happening here.”
