A prolific thief stole £400 sunglasses while on a community order, facing court consequences.
Newcastle: A thief stole designer sunglasses while already on a community order. Terrance Black, 41, and his partner visited the Sunglasses Hut. They tried on several pairs, but Black had no plans to buy.
Instead, he waited for a moment when no one was watching. He then pocketed a pair worth £400 and left the store. CCTV footage helped identify him, but the sunglasses were never found.
Black, from Whitfield Road in Elswick, was ordered to pay £200 in compensation. He pleaded guilty to theft at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court. The incident happened on July 27 last year.
Prosecutor Gurjot Kaur explained how Black looked around before taking the sunglasses. He has a long criminal record with 42 previous offences. His last trouble was in August 2024 for breaching a community order.
Defending lawyer Michael Crowe mentioned that Black is making progress on his community order. He is now on a methadone program and is engaging better with probation services.
