A thief in Elswick stole £400 worth of cosmetics, caught on CCTV. He faces a community order and must pay compensation.
Elswick: A shop thief was caught on camera stealing cosmetics. He took over £400 worth from Boots in Newcastle’s Eldon Square.
Scott Lockey, 36, had been trouble-free for over a decade. But he recently returned to stealing, a court heard. He entered the store with a female accomplice and left with stolen items.
Lockey was identified from CCTV footage. When arrested, he admitted to the crime. He received a 12-month community order and must pay £100 in compensation.
District Judge Kate Meek noted Lockey’s long history of staying out of trouble. She emphasized that he needs help to stop stealing.
On December 5, Lockey and his accomplice selected various cosmetic items and an electric toothbrush. They left without paying, but CCTV footage led to Lockey’s identification.
Lockey has 17 previous offenses but wants to be law-abiding again. His lawyer mentioned he is a former drug user and is no longer involved with drugs.
Before the theft, Lockey faced threats from drug users at his home. He stole to sell the items for cash to pay for temporary accommodation.
