Elen shares her experience on The Traitors after keeping it under wraps for months
Cardiff: Elen, a contestant on The Traitors, recently opened up about her experience on the show. She chatted with BBC Cymru Fyw after her exit, revealing how tough it was to keep everything a secret for eight months.
The show kicked off its third season last Wednesday, hosted by Claudia Winkleman. Elen, who hails from Cardiff, was among 25 contestants, but the group quickly shrank to 17 after just a few episodes. Unfortunately, she was the second contestant to be banished.
Filming took place in Inverness back in May, and Elen described the long hours and lack of communication with the outside world. She mentioned that they didn’t even sleep in the castle, returning to their lodgings each night.
Despite the cameras rolling, Elen said contestants often forgot they were being filmed, which led to genuine emotions on screen. Watching the show back felt surreal for her, as it didn’t quite match her real-life experience.
One of the main reasons Elen joined The Traitors was to promote the Welsh language. She felt it was important to showcase her culture and upbringing, especially since many people are surprised to learn that Wales has its own language.
She received a lot of support from her fellow contestants, particularly from Kas, who was curious about Welsh terms and their meanings. Elen was glad to share her language and culture with them.
Even though filming wrapped up months ago, Elen said the contestants have stayed close. They keep in touch through a WhatsApp group and have met up several times since the show ended.
As for what’s next, Elen is still living in Cardiff, working as a full-time translator while also pursuing her passion for opera singing. You can catch The Traitors every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 9 PM on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
