Elen, a contestant from Anglesey, shares her battle with endometriosis and how the show supported her during filming
Anglesey: Elen, a contestant on The Traitors, recently opened up about her health challenges. She shared how she kept her endometriosis hidden from the cameras while filming in a Scottish castle.
At just 24, Elen has stage four endometriosis, which affects her ovaries, bladder, and bowel. Living in Cardiff now, she’s been open about her struggles on social media.
She mentioned that her health issues were a big reason for joining the show. Elen needed money for private surgery since the NHS waiting list can be up to four years.
Raising awareness about endometriosis is also important to her. She pointed out that while it’s common among women, it doesn’t get enough attention or funding.
Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing painful symptoms. These can include heavy periods, pain during sex, and fatigue.
There’s no known cause or cure for endometriosis, but treatments can help manage the pain. Elen reassured fans that she was well taken care of during her time on the show.
She praised the welfare team for being accommodating and ensuring her diet matched her needs. They provided her with healthy food options, including herbal teas and plenty of fruits and veggies.
A plant-based diet can help reduce inflammation and pain from endometriosis. Elen also avoided alcohol during filming, as it can worsen her symptoms.
She’s grateful for the support and hopes to inspire others facing similar challenges.
