A tragic kitchen fire in Bishop Auckland has claimed the life of a man in his 90s, believed to be caused by an unattended chip pan
Bishop Auckland: It’s really sad to hear about the kitchen fire that took place recently. An elderly man in his 90s lost his life, and it’s just heartbreaking.
The fire service got the call around 10:44 AM on January 6. Firefighters from County Durham and Darlington were on the scene in just six minutes. They found the fire was already out, but sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
After looking into what happened, it seems the fire was caused by a chip pan that was left unattended. It’s a tough reminder of how quickly things can go wrong.
Chris Williams, a Group Manager with the fire service, expressed his condolences to the family. He emphasized how important it is to have working smoke alarms in every home.
He urged everyone to check their smoke alarms weekly and mentioned that if anyone needs help, the firefighters can come out and fit alarms for free as part of their Home Fire Safety Visits.
It’s also a good idea to check on neighbors, especially older folks living alone, to make sure their smoke alarms are working. The firefighters in Bishop Auckland are there to help and provide safety advice.
