Grimsby will see eight weeks of road safety works aimed at enhancing safety on Armstrong Street
Grimsby: So, there’s some big news about road safety in town. They’re planning eight weeks of work on Armstrong Street to make things safer for everyone.
The North East Lincolnshire Council has handed a £209,000 contract to a company called EC Surfacing Ltd from Hull. They’re set to kick off the improvements soon, but the exact start date is still up in the air.
This all comes after a decision made back in December 2023 to lower the speed limit to 20mph on that stretch of road. They’re also looking at other safety measures, especially at the junctions of Beeson Street and Armstrong Street. This was all sparked by a petition from local residents, thanks to the West Marsh Community Centre, and some input from Humberside Police.
The plan includes fixing up damaged kerbs, channels, and resurfacing the road. A spokesperson from the council mentioned they’re investing in better infrastructure to help improve safety and slow down traffic at those busy intersections.
They’re working with the contractor to nail down the schedule now that the contract is signed. Before this, there were some gas works happening in the area, but those were put on hold after complaints from locals about traffic issues.
They’re aiming to start the road improvements around March 10, but again, that’s not set in stone just yet.
