Edinburgh rail passengers face disruptions this Sunday due to a strike by train managers
Edinburgh: Rail passengers should check their travel plans for Sunday. Train managers are going on strike again. This affects services run by Avanti West Coast.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) is involved in a dispute. They are striking over rest day working conditions. Previous strikes were canceled, but the issue is still unresolved. This could lead to more strikes on Sundays for months.
On Sunday, a reduced timetable will be in place. Fewer trains will run during limited hours. Expect busy trains, as many people will still need to travel. Additionally, Network Rail is doing engineering work in the Crewe area, causing more disruptions.
Avanti West Coast will run one train per hour from London Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, and Preston. There will be limited service to Glasgow and an hourly shuttle between Liverpool and Crewe.
Trains will operate during limited hours. The first train leaves Euston just before 9 am, and the last one departs around 5 pm. Unfortunately, there will be no Avanti West Coast services to North Wales, Blackpool, or Edinburgh.
If you have tickets for Sunday, you can use them on other days between Saturday and Tuesday or get a refund. Kathryn O’Brien from Avanti West Coast advises checking travel plans due to the strike and engineering work.
She expressed disappointment over the ongoing strike, which affects many passengers. Those with pre-booked tickets who don’t want to travel on Sunday can get a full refund without fees.
An RMT spokesman mentioned they are open to talks to resolve the dispute. Passengers on the East Coast Main Line should also check their travel plans. Engineering work will affect services, and London King’s Cross station will be closed this weekend.
Improvements are being made to the track and overhead lines. Preparatory work is also happening for the East Coast Digital Programme, which aims to make journeys more reliable and greener.
