Motorists on the Edinburgh A720 faced long delays after a car caught fire, causing significant traffic disruptions during the morning rush.
Edinburgh: So, there was a bit of chaos on the A720 this morning. Drivers found themselves stuck in hour-long traffic jams after a car went up in flames. It all kicked off around 6:40 AM near Straiton.
Emergency services were quick to respond, but both lanes were closed, which really added to the delays. Traffic Scotland confirmed that many drivers were stuck for over an hour, and folks took to social media to vent their frustrations.
One driver tweeted, “I’ve moved just one car length in an hour!” while another chimed in, “Still not moving, it’s been nearly an hour!” You can imagine how annoying that must have been.
Live traffic updates showed emergency crews on the scene, and there were diversions in place. The nearby junctions were also experiencing heavy traffic, making things even worse.
Two fire engines from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to tackle the blaze. They used hose reels to put out the fire, which was quite a sight, with flames shooting up from the vehicle.
By 8 AM, Traffic Scotland updated everyone, saying the westbound carriageway was still closed due to the incident, and traffic was backed up all the way to Old Craighall.
Luckily, there were no injuries reported, but it was definitely a morning to forget for those caught in the mess. Police advised everyone to steer clear of the area if possible.
