They’ve got a mega burger challenge with two huge bacon burgers, chips, garlic bread, and more. It costs £40, but if you can polish it off in an hour, you get the meal for free and an extra £40 in cash. How cool is that?
Then there’s the mixed grill challenge, which is a feast of steak, gammon, chicken, sausages, and all the fixings for £50. Finish it in time, and it’s all on the house, plus you pocket the cash. And if you’re feeling really brave, there’s a 62 oz steak challenge for £70. Same deal—finish it in an hour, and it’s free, plus £50 cash!
So far, only two people have managed to conquer these challenges. The owner, Shaun Griffiths, got the idea from watching food challenge videos online. He wanted to create something fun and exciting for customers. It’s not about making a profit; it’s more about the thrill and the exposure for the restaurant.
They’ve had about 35 challengers, and the most popular ones are the mixed grill and steak. Each plate weighs around 3 kg, so it’s no small feat. Shaun says most people can eat about 2 to 2.2 kilos, but it’s that last bit that trips them up. The fastest time so far is 38 minutes, which is pretty impressive!
If you’re up for the challenge, you need to book 24 hours in advance and pay upfront. Whether you want to take on a challenge or just enjoy a regular meal, The George IV is definitely worth a visit!
