East Cambridgeshire: The council is proposing a tax freeze for the twelfth year. Councillor Anna Bailey, the council leader, feels confident about balancing the budget for the next two years.

The council has plans to balance its budget for the upcoming financial year. They suggested increasing the council tax by £5, which is the maximum allowed. This would mean a Band D household pays £147.14 in 2025/26.

Even with this plan, the council needs to find savings in future years, including £5.3 million by 2027/28. At a recent finance meeting, Cllr Bailey proposed freezing the council tax for another year.

If approved, a Band D household would continue paying £142.14 annually. Cllr Bailey also asked for help in finding savings to avoid raising council tax in the future.

She expressed confidence in presenting a balanced budget for the next two years, barring any financial surprises. The final budget proposals will be shared with councillors next month. If the freeze is approved, residents may still see their overall council tax bills rise due to increases from other authorities.
