The date for a €2000 social welfare payment has shifted, benefiting specific recipients automatically this year
This payment is part of the Carer’s Support Grant, which recently got a boost from €1,850 to €2,000 in the latest budget. If you’re caring for more than one person, you’ll get a grant for each one.
The best part? If you’re already receiving Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance, you don’t have to lift a finger. You’ll see that payment hit your account on June 5, 2025.
Now, if you’re wondering who qualifies, it’s pretty straightforward. You need to be over 16, living in Ireland, and caring for someone full-time for at least six months, including that first Thursday in June.
Just a heads up, during that six-month period, you can’t work more than 18.5 hours a week or take any courses that exceed that time. Also, you can’t be living in a hospital or similar place.
If you’re already getting one of those allowances, you’re all set. But if not, you’ll need to fill out an application for each person you care for. You can grab that form from your local Intreo Centre or Citizens Information Centre.
You can apply for the grant anytime from April of the year you’re applying for until December of the following year. So, if you’re looking to apply for 2024, you can do that from April 2024 until the end of December 2025. Easy peasy!
