Nottingham: E-scooters are making a comeback! After some hiccups, the city is ready to roll out around 1,300 scooters this spring. The council has been working hard to find a new operator after the previous one went under.

Safety is a big deal, so they’re introducing a ‘beginner’s mode’ to help new riders ease in. This mode slows things down for the first three rides. Plus, they’re planning to set up ‘no go’ zones to keep everyone safe.

E-scooters first hit the streets in November 2020 as part of a trial. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster since then, but the trial is set to run until 2026. The council is keen to make sure these scooters are a safe and fun option for getting around.

The new operator, Dott, is stepping in after Superpedestrian went out of business. Dott’s scooters will be red and blue, a change from the previous green ones. The council is excited about this partnership, hoping it will help reduce traffic and pollution in the city.

With over three million rides taken since the trial began, it’s clear that people are keen on e-scooters. They’ll be available at 300 locations around Nottingham, and the pricing is pretty straightforward—29p per minute with no unlock fee.

Dott is also offering discounts for NHS workers, students, and those on low incomes. It’s all about making transport more accessible. The goal is to get more folks out of their cars and onto scooters, making the city a greener place to live.
