London: Millions of folks might be getting a little extra cash from the Government this January. The DWP is rolling out £25 Cold Weather Payments if the chilly temps stick around long enough.

Right now, the UK is dealing with a cold snap, and it looks like it’s here to stay for a bit. We’re even expecting a few days of snow starting this weekend, which could trigger those payments in some areas.

So, here’s the deal: if the average temperature in your area drops to 0°C or below for a week, you could snag that £25. This is mainly for low-income households, including those on Pension Credit, Universal Credit, and Income Support.

Now, whether you qualify depends on how close you live to a weather station that tracks those low temps. Next week, it’s going to be tough to get above 4°C, and it’s going to feel pretty brutal out there. So, payments might just kick in.

The Government says you might get these Cold Weather Payments if you’re receiving certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest. If you’re eligible, you’ll get the cash automatically—no need to apply. Just remember to let Jobcentre Plus know if you have a baby or a child under five moving in with you.

And don’t worry, these payments won’t mess with your other benefits. You’ll get £25 for each week of really cold weather between November 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
