Cardiff: So, the DVLA has come out with a list of number plates that are banned for 2025. They think some of these plates are just too rude or offensive for the roads in the UK. Every time a new registration series comes out, they hold back certain combinations that might upset people.

These banned plates can include all sorts of things—like swear words, sexual references, or even stuff that’s racist or sexist. They’re also keeping an eye on political and religious references that might rub folks the wrong way.

A recent Freedom of Information request showed some of the plates that won’t be hitting the streets this year. It’s kind of wild to see what they consider inappropriate. For example, plates like **25 HAG and **25 PAS are on the chopping block because of their meanings.

There are also some that reference the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, like **25 RUS and **25 UKR. It’s a sensitive time, and they’re trying to avoid any unnecessary drama.

Other banned plates include combinations that hint at war, like AR25 WAR and EU25 WAR. Some of them are a bit cheeky, like PE25 RVT, which sounds a lot like “pervert.” It’s interesting how a few letters can stir up so much trouble!

The first batch of 2025 plates will roll out on March 1, starting with the 25 series. Then, later in September, we’ll see the 75 series come into play.

Mark Trimbee, the CEO of Regtransfers, commented on the situation. He finds it amusing to see which plates get flagged, but he also understands why it’s necessary. Personalised plates are a fun way to express yourself, but they shouldn’t promote harmful messages.

He pointed out that some combinations might not seem offensive at first glance, but with a little thought, they could be interpreted in a negative way. It’s definitely a tricky balance to strike when deciding what to ban.
