The DVLA warns drivers to update their information after moving homes to avoid fines.
Cardiff: The DVLA has an important message for drivers who recently moved. They’re reminding everyone to update their documents. This helps avoid any issues down the road.
They tweeted, “Moved home? Update your driving licence, vehicle log book, Direct Debit for vehicle tax, and private number plate documents.” It’s a friendly reminder for all drivers to keep their info current.
If you’re away temporarily, like at university, you don’t need to inform them. Just make sure they can reach you at your permanent address. You can still drive while waiting for new documents.
When you move, it’s essential to update your provisional or full driving licence. As the vehicle’s registered keeper, you also need to update the log book.
If you pay vehicle tax by Direct Debit, let the DVLA know about your address change. For private registration numbers not on cars, update your V750 or V778 documents. If you have a trailer, update its registration too.
You can easily update your address for free on the DVLA website. And remember, you can still drive while waiting for your new licence.
If you want to change your name at the same time, you’ll need to apply by post. Don’t forget, failing to inform the DVLA about your address change could lead to a fine of up to £1,000.
