Consett: So, guess what? Durham County Council just approved a new housing project in Consett! We’re talking about 170 homes from Persimmon, and it’s all happening in the Templetown area.

These homes are designed to help first-time buyers, with 17 of them being sold at a discount. They’ll have a mix of two- to five-bedroom options, which is pretty cool.

The designs are meant to reflect Consett’s local heritage while keeping a modern twist. It’s nice to see that they’re thinking about the town’s character.

On top of that, Persimmon is putting in over £970,000 for local contributions. This includes cash for secondary education and healthcare, which is a big plus for the community.

They’re also planning a 1.8km network of paths for walking and cycling around the homes. Plus, each house will have electric vehicle charging points and solar panels. How great is that?

There’s even going to be a play area for kids and a big open space that’s about the size of eight football pitches. They’re also adding a heritage trail with info boards about Consett’s history.

Adam McVickers from Persimmon Durham expressed his excitement, saying these homes are much-needed and will be energy-efficient, catering to first-time buyers and families.

It’s a great step for Consett, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
