Merseyside: A young woman lost her life in a tragic accident caused by her boyfriend, who was driving under the influence. Jamie Hughes, just 23, was over three times the legal limit for Ketamine when he crashed his car on the M62. His girlfriend, Kate Swale, only 21, was a passenger and sadly didn’t survive.

Hughes pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison. He’ll also be banned from driving for five years after he gets out. Kate’s family described her as a “bright and funny” person who brought joy to everyone around her. They’re heartbroken and will miss her dearly.

After the sentencing, Kate’s family shared their pain, saying they’ll have to live with the trauma forever because of someone else’s reckless choices. They hope others will learn from this tragedy and think twice before driving under the influence.

Kate was full of life, loved getting dressed up, and was always the first to hit the dance floor. Her family is urging everyone to make safe choices and never get into a car with someone who might be under the influence.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson expressed his condolences to Kate’s family, emphasizing that no sentence can replace the loss of a loved one. He highlighted the importance of road safety and the devastating impact of drug driving.
