A commuter’s experience reveals how many drivers flout speed limits on the M6
Birmingham: So, Jamie Brassington was driving on the M6 during rush hour, and wow, what a scene! You know how it gets, right? Everyone’s in a hurry, and it can be a bit wild.
He shared his experience with Birmingham Live, and it’s pretty eye-opening. Picture this: it was still dark out when he hit the road, and the rain was coming down, making everything look a bit gloomy.
Traffic was already piling up between Junction 10a and Junction 9, which is a notorious bottleneck. To help with the congestion, they had put up a 60mph speed limit. Sounds good, right?
But here’s the kicker: most drivers just ignored it! They were zooming past at over 70mph, like the speed limit was just a suggestion. Only a few folks were actually following the rules.
Jamie pointed out that the Highway Code has a clear rule about this. It says you mustn’t exceed the speed limit, especially when those red signs are flashing. But it seems like many drivers just don’t pay attention.
It’s a simple rule, but it’s often forgotten. So, next time you’re on the M6, maybe keep an eye on that speed limit, yeah?
