Motorists are advised of significant M4 closures for resurfacing, with lengthy detours expected in the coming weeks
Wiltshire: So, here’s the scoop. Drivers are being warned about some major disruptions on the M4. There’s going to be resurfacing work happening soon, and it’s going to affect traffic for a while.
National Highways has announced that parts of the motorway will be closed from January to March. They’re focusing on the stretch between junctions 14 and 15, which is near Membury services. Expect some overnight closures starting later this month.
For the first few nights, they’ll be closing the hard shoulder and the first two lanes. But don’t worry, Membury services will still be open for the first three days. However, from January 16, access to those services will be shut down for a couple of nights.
Full closures will kick off on January 27. Victoria Bathe, the project manager, mentioned that they’re really sorry for any hassle this might cause. But they promise this work will lead to a smoother ride for everyone in the long run.
They’re planning to do most of the work at night, from 9 PM to 6 AM, to keep things as light as possible for traffic. So, if you’re planning to drive through that area, make sure to give yourself some extra time.
And just a heads up, if you’re driving a heavy vehicle, there are specific diversion routes you’ll need to follow. It’s best to stick to the road signs instead of relying on your GPS.
